Application Developer (Java)

We’re seeking an experienced Application Developer (Java) to join a high-profile digital transformation initiative supporting critical service delivery and regulatory reform. This role will contribute to a major change program aimed at improving business processes, technology enablement, and stakeholder outcomes.
About the Role
You will play a key role in designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting a range of in-house applications built on Oracle and Enterprise Java platforms. Working closely with project and ICT teams, you’ll deliver fit-for-purpose solutions that drive productivity and compliance within a dynamic and fast-evolving regulatory environment.
This position offers the opportunity to work on meaningful public sector initiatives that improve efficiency and service delivery across Queensland.
Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions using Java SE/EE and associated technologies.

Perform systems analysis, impact assessment, and application enhancement in alignment with business goals.

Ensure adherence to coding standards, quality assurance practices, and change/release management procedures.

Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, providing technical guidance and support as required.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transition technical knowledge and deliver business value.
Essential Experience & Skills
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Enterprise Java development(Java 17 or higher).

Proven experience with JSF, Spring 5.x, Hibernate/JPA, and Maven.

Strong skills in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and secure web application development.

Hands-on experience with Oracle SQL/PLSQL and TomEE/Tomcat application servers.

Proficiency with Git (Bitbucket), Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD best practices.

Experience writing unit/integration tests using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, or PowerMock.

Familiarity with Selenium or similar web testing frameworks.

Exposure to Unix or Windows deployment environments.
Desirable

Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related discipline.

Experience delivering software solutions in a government or regulated environment.

Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
