About the Role

The HR Reporting and Payroll Officer (APS 5) is responsible for accurate payroll processing, maintaining employee data, and delivering HR reports that support informed decision-making.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with data, has strong attention to detail, and thrives in a structured and supportive environment.


Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing

  • Process payroll transactions including commencements, cessations, leave, and superannuation.
  • Maintain accurate HR and payroll records.
  • Investigate payroll discrepancies, apply corrective actions, and escalate complex matters as needed.
  • Undertake payroll administrative tasks with precision and consistency.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Prepare payroll reports and related documentation.
  • Support payroll-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

HR Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain HR dashboards and reports (e.g., headcount, turnover, workforce demographics).
  • Produce clear reporting to highlight trends and insights in HR metrics.
  • Provide data analysis to support workforce planning and strategic HR initiatives.
  • Implement processes to improve data accuracy and integrity.
  • Support HR projects involving analytics and reporting.
  • Train HR staff on reporting tools and data processes as required.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualifications in HR, Payroll, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience in payroll processing and HR reporting.
  • Experience with Aurion(highly desirable).
  • must have experience with Power BI
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated payroll processing experience within a government environment; experience with Aurion highly desirable.
  2. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  3. Experience using data reporting tools, with Power BI strongly .
  4. Proven ability to deliver accurate, high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively within a team, sharing information proactively to meet shared goals.
