Wellbeing, WHS & Injury Management Advisor (APS6 & EL 1)

Non Ongoing or S26 | Full-time | Canberra

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Wellbeing, WHS and Injury Management Advisor to join a dynamic HR and Corporate Services environment. This role supports a diverse workforce and contributes to a positive, proactive safety and wellbeing culture across complex operational settings.

As a key member of the WHS team, you will provide expert advice across workplace wellbeing, injury management, rehabilitation and WHS compliance, ensuring alignment with Commonwealth legislation and internal frameworks. You will lead rehabilitation and workers’ compensation cases, drive early intervention initiatives, support psychosocial risk management, and contribute to the ongoing development of WHS and rehabilitation management systems.

Key Responsibilities APS 6:

  • Provide high quality advice on WHS, wellbeing and injury management legislation and frameworks.
  • Lead rehabilitation and workers’ compensation matters, supporting sustainable return to work outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain WHS and rehabilitation policies, procedures and documentation.
  • Contribute to early intervention, psychological wellbeing and psychosocial hazard initiatives.
  • Deliver training and guidance to build safety capability across the organisation.
  • Partner with stakeholders to support continuous improvement and strengthen WHS culture.
  • Prepare high quality reports, briefings and committee documentation.

Key Responsibilities EL1

  • Lead the WHS function, providing leadership and coaching to WHS advisors and overseeing WHS and injury management frameworks, policies and systems.

  • Develop and deliver the WHS Improvement Plan and annual safety programs to drive continuous improvement and organisational safety outcomes.

  • Lead investigations into serious incidents, ensuring effective root-cause analysis, corrective actions and preventative controls.

  • Monitor, analyse and report WHS performance data, identifying trends, emerging risks and improvement opportunities.

  • Conduct proactive hazard identification and risk assessments across diverse environments, including visitor operations, heritage assets and construction activities.

  • Oversee early intervention, injury management, rehabilitation and return-to-work programs in collaboration with managers, providers and regulators.

  • Provide expert WHS advice to senior leaders and managers, including interpretation of legislation, codes of practice and industry standards.

  • Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships and represent the organisation on WHS matters as required.

  • Promote a positive safety culture through training, coaching and capability building across the organisation.


About You:

  • Strong experience in wellbeing, WHS, rehabilitation or injury management in complex environments.
  • Ability to analyse data, identify trends and support system and process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Skilled in writing briefs, governance documentation and WHS/rehab procedures.
  • Able to work under limited direction and support organisational change.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability in influencing positive safety outcomes.
Desirable:

  • Qualifications in WHS, allied health, mental health or psychological science.
  • Experience in psychosocial hazard management and early-intervention programs.
