Our client, an important figure in the public sector, is seeking a Business Case Writer to support the development and delivery of equipment replacement business cases that underpin key operational projects. This is an initial 6-month engagement, with the possibility of extension.

You'll play a key role in shaping a high-impact Business Case for the replacement of critical operational equipment. The current breathing apparatus fleet is reaching end-of-life, requiring replacement to ensure compliance, interoperability, and most importantly, frontline safety. An Initial Options Analysis is nearing completion and will need to be transposed into a comprehensive Business Case. This will involve developing sections including cost-benefit analysis, risk management, procurement pathways, and implementation planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and lead workshops and stakeholder meetings (small to medium scale) to capture and define business requirements.
  • Prepare and develop comprehensive Business Cases using standardised templates in line with the Strategic Asset Management Framework.
  • Drive Business Cases through the funding approval cycle, ensuring effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct business process reviews including gap analysis, process mapping, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Produce high-quality supporting documentation such as project plans, workflows, and checklists.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and project teams to analyse processes, procedures, and requirements, ensuring proposed solutions align with business objectives.
  • Provide independent, best-practice advice and recommendations based on requirements analysis.
  • Contribute to weekly progress meetings with the Major Projects Manager to ensure alignment and timely delivery.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and writing Business Cases, ideally within large, asset-intensive, or safety-critical organisations.
  • Advanced business analysis capabilities, including stakeholder engagement, process mapping, and gap analysis.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Background in emergency services or equipment supply industries (highly regarded but not essential).
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with proven ability to balance competing demands and meet deadlines.
