A long term contract has arisen for an experienced Power BI Specialist to work on a large, complex, multi-year program with real social impact. The work directly supports frontline service delivery, outcome tracking, and evidence-based investment decisions.

Your role will be focused on building production dashboards that are used daily throughout the business. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimising operational and strategic Power BI dashboards that answer real questions and drive decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and operational reports
  • Translate business requirements into clear, actionable visualisations in collaboration with stakeholders and Business Analysts
  • Build clean, scalable semantic data models using best-practice star schema design
  • Write and optimise advanced DAX, Power Query, and SQL for performance
  • Tune and fix slow reports and inefficient models
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, security, and governance in a regulated government environment
  • Provide Power BI technical guidance and best-practice advice across the team
  • Support BAU reporting, enhancements, and ongoing optimisation

Skills required:

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Power BI Developer / BI Analyst
  • Advanced DAX (CALCULATE patterns, context transition, time intelligence, performance trade-offs)
  • Strong Power Query and advanced SQL (CTEs, window functions, performance tuning)
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing and data modelling
  • Proven experience delivering operational reporting in large, complex or regulated environments
  • Experience implementing row-level security and data access controls
