Cloud Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer for a 6-month contract opportunity based in Brisbane with a Queensland Government department.
This role will suit a hands-on cloud professional with strong Microsoft Azure experience who can support, maintain and improve enterprise cloud environments across infrastructure, applications, databases, APIs and automation.
About the role
In this role, you will provide day-to-day operational support for cloud environments, including monitoring, provisioning, troubleshooting, remediation and technical administration.
You will also contribute to cloud migration activities, system improvements, automation practices and the ongoing support of Microsoft cloud platforms including Azure, Dynamics 365 and Power Platform.
This is a varied role where you will work closely with technical teams, vendors and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure and practical cloud solutions within a Queensland Government environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide operational support for cloud environments, including monitoring, provisioning, troubleshooting and remediation
- Administer Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS environments
- Support Dynamics 365, Power Platform and other third-party cloud solutions
- Use PowerShell, CLI or Python to manage and support cloud infrastructure
- Assist with migration of systems from on-premise infrastructure to cloud solutions
- Contribute to Infrastructure as Code and repeatable deployment practices
- Support DevSecOps ways of working across teams
- Maintain clear and accurate system documentation
- Liaise with technical teams, vendors and business stakeholders
- Identify service improvements and recommend practical solutions
- Review emerging technologies and assess their suitability for the environment
- Apply structured problem-solving to diagnose issues and implement solutions
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have experience with:
- Microsoft Azure cloud environments
- Azure AD / Entra ID
- Azure AD B2C
- Power Platform
- Dynamics 365
- Azure DevOps
- Power BI
- Infrastructure as Code
- PowerShell, CLI or Python scripting
- Azure SQL and/or Snowflake
- API Management and API security
- Data pipelines
- Role Based Access Control frameworks
- Networking, security and firewalls
- Enterprise ICT environments
Highly desirable
- Experience with Azure B2C authentication flows and custom policies
- Experience with Azure API Management
- Database administration experience across Azure SQL and Snowflake
- Experience with Informatica administration
- Experience establishing or managing RBAC frameworks
- Relevant IT certifications
- Previous experience reviewing cloud environments and recommending improvements against cloud standards and industry best practice
About you
You will be technically strong, reliable and comfortable working across both operational support and project-based cloud work.
You will need to be able to troubleshoot issues, communicate clearly, document your work properly and work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
This role would suit someone who enjoys solving technical problems, improving cloud environments and supporting critical business systems in a government setting.
