Contract Manager – Federal Government | APS6 Equivalent

Are you a skilled Contract Manager with a strong understanding of procurement and contract lifecycle processes in a federal government setting? We’re looking for a capable and motivated professional to join agovernment agency to support the ongoing success of large scale national programs.
About the Role
This APS6 level Contract Manager role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the management of high value, complex contracts that support essential infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for end to end contract management for key service providers and programs, including cloud services, software licensing, and national contact centres.
This role suits someone who thrives in a fast paced, structured environment, with strong knowledge of Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs), PGPA Act compliance, and demonstrated experience managing sensitive and strategically important contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee full contract lifecycle activities including negotiation, implementation, performance monitoring, and renewal/variation processes.
- Provide specialist advice on procurement and contract management policies, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and internal frameworks.
- Lead or contribute to the development of contract documentation such as management plans, work instructions, statements of requirements (SORs), and contract variations.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and external vendors to ensure high standards of contract delivery and service performance.
- Support contract officers and supervise a small team to ensure quality outputs and consistency of contract management practices.
- Contribute to strategic planning, risk management, and policy development in the contract management space.
- Draft high-quality written advice, reports, briefings, and correspondence on complex and sensitive contract matters.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong understanding of government procurement and contract management frameworks, including CPRs and the PGPA Act.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex contracts in a public sector or similarly regulated environment.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply policy and legislation in operational settings.
- High level stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse groups.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with systems such as SAP highly regarded.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
Eligibility Requirements
- Australian Citizenship(mandatory)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance(with potential for higher clearance if required)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a national police check
