Cyber Security Specialist – Security Architecture & Design

Our client is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Specialist with a strong focus on security architecture, design, and engineering to help protect and enable critical internal programs across cloud and on-prem environments. This is a hands-on role where your expertise will directly influence how security is embedded across systems—not bolted on after the fact.

You shall work closely with stakeholders, architects, and delivery teams to design secure solutions, uplift security maturity, and strengthen cyber resilience across the organisation.

Your Role

• Partnering with internal stakeholders to understand program objectives, risks, and security requirements

• Designing and configuring secure cloud and on-prem components aligned to recognised security baselines and best practice

• Implementing and maintaining security controls to protect systems from evolving cyber threats

• Conducting security assessments and reviews to identify vulnerabilities and recommend pragmatic remediation actions

• Supporting the development of monitoring processes for security logs and alerts to enable timely detection and response

• Collaborating with security team members to develop and uplift security policies, standards, and procedures

• Providing practical security guidance to development and delivery teams to ensure secure-by-design outcomes

• Staying across emerging threats, technologies, and approaches to continuously improve security posture

• Producing clear, well-structured documentation for security configurations, processes, and procedures

What you will bring

Essential experience

• 5+ years’ experience in cyber security, with a strong focus on security architecture or engineering

• At least 2 years’ experience in one or more of the following:

  • Configuring cloud components in line with recognised security baselines

  • Applying security frameworks and standards (e.g. NIST, ISO, CIS, ISM, SACSF)

  • Conducting security assessments and validating penetration testing outcomes

  • Designing security architectures and translating business requirements into secure technical solutions

• Strong technical foundations and a clear commitment to continuous learning

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical, risk-based mindset

• Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively in a fast-paced environment

Highly regarded

• Knowledge and application of SA CSF, Essential Eight, and ISM

• Hands-on experience with security tooling such as IAM, EDR, SIEM, and firewalls

• Experience with secure configuration, testing, and operational troubleshooting
