Data Modeler Job Description

This is a senior role for data modeler who is capable of designing, documenting and implementing data modelling solutions to support Ausgrid’s information management, data analytics and other data-driven initiatives. To design and prototype data into standardised reusable models in the Enterprise Data Platform (Azure Data Lakehouse).

The successful candidate will:

• Work closely with domain experts to understand business data requirements and translate them into conceptual, logical and physical data models.
• Conduct modelling reviews with technical and business stakeholders.
• Work closely with engineers on the implementations of target databases.
• Work closely with modelling lead on governing the modelling standards and ensuring process is followed.
• Work in a collaborative environment with agile approach.

Responsibilities include:

• Ensuring the accuracy, completeness and consistency of the data product models.
• Maintaining documentation and metadata for the data product models.
• Communicating and explaining complex data concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ensuring proper handshaking process happen between modelling and engineering team during handovers.
• Contributing and assisting with data product end to end process such as data profiling, data flow solutioning, requirement verification.
• Contributing to the data modelling and design standards, help promoting and pollenating modelling standards and knowledge across Ausgrid.
• Peer reviewing for others’ modelling work and provide feedback to keep others modelling work aligned with company standards.
• Proactively and independently addressing business requirements and articulate issues, assumptions and challenges to reduce project delivery risks.

Skills desired:

• 7+ years of proven hands-on modelling experiences. Capable of using Third Normal Form (3NF) and Dimensional modelling methods.
• Experiences with medallion architecture(bronze, silver, gold, etc).
• Experiences with any major cloud-based RDBMS.
• Azure Data Lakehouse
• Experiences with any professional data modelling tools.
• Understand Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD), SparkSQL,
• Experiences with agile delivery, and clear about design-development cycles.
• Experiences with commercial ERP software like SAP will be plus.
• Experiences with utility companies will be advantageous.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
