We’re currently looking for an experienced Senior Mainframe MQ Specialist to join a high-performing core systems environment. This is a great opportunity for a senior technical professional with deep expertise in MQ on $z/OS$ who can lead from the front, solve complex platform issues, and support critical enterprise services.

The role

You will play a key role in the support, performance, stability, and strategic improvement of MQ services across a large-scale mainframe environment. Working closely with infrastructure, support, and application teams, you will provide expert technical guidance and help drive platform reliability and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Provide senior technical leadership across MQ installation, configuration, usage, tuning, and monitoring.

• Support the availability, performance, and throughput of production MQ environments.

• Diagnose and resolve complex software, usage, and performance issues.

• Work closely with technical support, infrastructure, and development teams to deliver effective mainframe solutions.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance stability, reduce costs, and improve service levels.

• Monitor software and transaction performance to ensure efficient and cost-effective usage.

• Contribute to high availability planning and future platform development.

• Assist with strategic and tactical planning for the broader mainframe environment.

• Provide technical input into project estimates, planning, and implementation activities.

What we’re looking for

• Strong hands-on experience with MQ in a mainframe environment.

• Solid expertise in $z/OS$ , including MQ performance tuning, capacity planning, and monitoring.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.

• Experience working across infrastructure, support, and application teams.

• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

• A collaborative approach with the ability to work across organisational boundaries.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and continuous improvement mindset.

Highly regarded

• Experience with IMS and/or DB2 systems programming.

• Knowledge of Assembler.

• Exposure to SMP/E.

• Understanding of enterprise technology services, connectivity, storage, and large-scale application environments.

• Exposure to project delivery methodologies.
