Network Engineer

Our client is a government agency looking for a Network Engineer to join a high-performing technology team responsible for maintaining critical network infrastructure and monitoring capabilities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on engineer with strong networking expertise, a passion for observability, and experience supporting highly available environments.

About the Role

As an Observability & Network Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and availability of complex network environments. You will work closely with infrastructure, operations, and engineering teams to design monitoring solutions, troubleshoot network and voice-related issues, and enhance system visibility through custom monitoring and alerting capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and support highly available network environments.
  • Monitor and optimise network performance, availability and reliability.
  • Work closely with Tier 1 network providers to diagnose and resolve complex connectivity issues.
  • Support and troubleshoot VoIP/RoIP environments, identifying and resolving voice-specific network issues.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring dashboards, metrics and alerting solutions using Zabbix and Grafana.
  • Create custom scripts to gather metrics and integrate with monitoring and observability platforms.
  • Develop custom alerting solutions to improve incident detection and response.
  • Investigate and resolve network, performance and infrastructure-related incidents.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to improve operational visibility and system resilience.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across monitoring, automation and network operations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in network engineering within enterprise or mission-critical environments.
  • Expertise in designing and supporting high-availability network architectures.
  • Experience working with Tier 1 telecommunications or network service providers.
  • Strong understanding of routing, switching, network protocols and network performance monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience with Zabbix and Grafana.
  • Experience developing custom monitoring, metrics collection and alerting solutions.
  • Scripting experience using Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience supporting VoIP and/or RoIP technologies.
  • Experience diagnosing voice quality, latency, jitter and packet loss issues.
  • Experience with automation and infrastructure monitoring best practices.
  • Exposure to large-scale, highly available operational environments.
