Personnel Security Vetting Officer (NV1)

Location: Barton, ACT
Employment Type: Contract – 12 months (with possible extension)
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Personnel Security Vetting Officer to join a high performing Security Clearances and Maintenance (SCV) team within a Commonwealth environment.

You will play a key role in delivering personnel security clearances, complex assessments and quality assurance activities in line with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).

This is an office based role located in Barton, ACT, supporting national security outcomes.


About the Role

Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director Vetting, you will:

  • Undertake personnel security vetting in accordance with the PSPF and internal procedures.

  • Manage and assess security clearance cases using case management systems.

  • Provide sound advice on clearance outcomes and risk matters.

  • Prepare high quality assessment documentation for complex cases.

  • Manage a Quality Assurance (QA) caseload aligned with security standards.

  • Work to tight deadlines in a high tempo environment.

  • Support administrative and security functions including inbox management and change of circumstances assessments.

  • Collaborate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.


About You

You are a motivated security professional who brings:

  • Certificate IV in Government (Personnel Security Vetting)(mandatory).

  • A current Australian Government NV1 security clearance (minimum).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • High attention to detail and sound judgement.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and complex workloads.

  • A professional, discreet and ethical approach aligned with APS values.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Eligibility Requirements

To be considered, you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen.

  • Hold a current NV1 clearance prior to commencement.

  • Be willing to comply with Commonwealth security frameworks and confidentiality requirements.

Please note: Due to the nature of the role, work from home options are very limited.
