Program Architect

Role overview

A large, complex organisation is delivering a major transformation program to modernise a high-volume, manually intensive service. The program aims to improve customer experience, reduce administrative burden, enable data-driven decision making, and deliver scalable, future-ready digital solutions.

A capable and committed Program Architect is required to work closely with program leadership, delivery teams, and ICT to shape and deliver a fit-for-purpose architecture that supports the program’s objectives.

This role operates across both business and technology domains, with strong collaboration between transformation, digital, and ICT teams. The Program Architect will provide strategic architectural leadership during discovery, design, and procurement phases, with the opportunity to support delivery activities as the program progresses.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a key internal adviser to business, digital, and ICT stakeholders

• Drive shared understanding of problems to solve, delivery phases, and technical feasibility

• Review existing artefacts (e.g. market scans, service blueprints, business requirements) to define required business and technology capabilities

• Translate ideas, problem statements, and timelines into feasible technology and architecture options

• Prepare and present architectural options, including pros/cons and recommendations covering cost, time, delivery, procurement, and support considerations

• Develop and maintain architecture artefacts, diagrams, and presentations for varied audiences

• Collaborate with external vendors and peer organisations to understand market solutions and best practice

• Support ICT-led procurement activities, including preparation of tender documentation and evaluation of responses where applicable

• Work closely with ICT teams to align solutions with existing platforms, technologies, and roadmaps

• Ensure solutions are supportable, reusable, interoperable, and maximise technology investment

• Identify and escalate risks and issues early to enable timely resolution

• Ensure compliance with relevant cyber security, procurement, and organisational policies

• Present to project boards, working groups, and senior stakeholders as required

Candidate requirements

Highly desirable

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as providing oversight of enterprise / program level architecture

• Strong understanding of modern SaaS platforms, CRM systems, and digital experience solutions

• Proven experience providing architectural input to complex programs or transformations

• ICT procurement experience, including acting as a subject matter expert or advisor

• Ability to lead or coordinate solution architects during delivery phases

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences

• Strong skills in PowerPoint, Visio, and other productivity tools to produce clear, audience-appropriate artefacts

Desirable

• Previous experience as a Solution Architect

• Strong business acumen and emotional intelligence

• Understanding of application, data, and integration architecture domains

• Prior experience working within large, complex or regulated environments

• Knowledge of government or enterprise cyber security and procurement frameworks
