Ruby on Rails Engineer (Hybrid / Remote)

Location: Hybrid (Adelaide/Sydney/Melbourne/Remote within Australia)

Type: Full-time

We’re looking for a skilled Ruby on Rails Engineer to join our client's team and contribute to the growth, stability, and innovation to their platform. You’ll work on a Ruby on Rails monolith at scale, supporting multiple production environments, and play a key role in both development and deployment.

Tech Stack

• Core: Ruby 2.6–2.7 / Rails 6 monolith
• Databases: Postgres, SQL Server
• Messaging / Services: RabbitMQ, Tomcat
• Frontend: jQuery, Vue, Bootstrap 3
• Infrastructure / Deployment: Chef, Terraform

Nice to Have

• Modern CSS, HTML5, and contemporary frontend frameworks
• Elasticsearch
• Async job processing (Delayed Job or similar)
• AWS or other cloud platforms
• Test automation tools (Capybara, RSpec, etc.)

What You’ll Do

• Build, maintain, and enhance features within our large-scale Rails platform
• Contribute to deployment and change management across 30+ mission-critical environments
• Ensure compliance and regulatory standards are met within the platform
• Collaborate with BA/QA on requirements, prototyping, and acceptance criteria
• Support documentation, technical writing, and training resource development

Skills We Value

• Strong Ruby on Rails engineering experience (Rails 6 preferred)
• Solid SQL and database design skills (Postgres/SQL Server)
• Experience managing deployments in complex environments
• Familiarity with risk/change management and release governance
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to balance hands-on coding with higher-level technical leadership
