This organisation is a large, complex public sector entity operating in a major Australian capital city. It supports a broad and diverse community and manages a significant asset base and annual operating budget. The organisation delivers a wide range of essential services and infrastructure programs, supported by a large and evolving ICT landscape.
As part of a multi-year Modern ERP Program, the organisation is undertaking a major SAP S/4HANA transformation to modernise finance capabilities, improve operational efficiency, and enable future-ready, cloud-based ERP solutions aligned with best-practice standards.
Purpose of the Role
The SAP Business Analyst – Finance will support the Core Finance Value Stream within the Modern ERP Program. The role is responsible for contributing to the design, build, testing, and deployment of SAP S/4HANA Finance solutions using the SAP Activate methodology.
This role requires a strong project-oriented Business Analyst with deep experience in large-scale finance transformation initiatives. You will work closely with business stakeholders, delivery partners, and vendors to translate complex finance requirements into high-quality, traceable system solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Analyse and document end-to-end finance business processes, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency.

Lead requirements elicitation through structured techniques including workshops, interviews, and process mapping.

Develop AS-IS and TO-BE process models and support fit-to-standard design principles.

Identify gaps, risks, and dependencies in proposed SAP solutions and constructively challenge deviations from agreed designs.

Support solution design activities in collaboration with functional, technical, and vendor teams.

Contribute to testing activities including test case development, UAT support, defect triage, and issue resolution.

Develop training materials and support business readiness and change activities.

Maintain end-to-end requirements traceability across design, build, testing, and deployment.

Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and delivery partners.
Mandatory Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate:

7+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst, with significant experience in finance systems and transformations.

Strong hands-on experience with SAP solutions (S/4HANA, ECC, FICO), ideally within migration or transformation programs.

Proven ability to translate business needs into functional requirements, user stories, and process artefacts.

Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality system designs through close stakeholder collaboration.

Experience working effectively with vendors and cross-functional ICT and business teams.

Strong understanding of structured testing practices, including test strategies, plans, cases, and reporting.

Ability to meet standard public sector background checking requirements.

Desirable Experience
-
Experience supporting large-scale finance transformation programs in Federal, State, or Local Government.

Understanding of public sector financial compliance and reporting frameworks.

Experience with SAP Signavio (BPMN).

Business Analysis certification (CBAP, CCBA, or equivalent).
-
Chartered Accountant or equivalent finance qualification.
