Senior Business Analyst – Finance (SAP S/4HANA Upgrade)

We’re partnering with a large Queensland Government department who is embarking on a major Finance Transformation Program and upgrading its ERP environment from SAP ECC6 to SAP S/4HANA.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Business Analyst with strong finance and SAP expertise to contribute to a high-impact program that supports better outcomes for vulnerable communities across Queensland.

About the Role

As a Senior Business Analyst, you will play a key role in shaping the future-state finance capabilities within the new S/4HANA platform. You’ll work closely with finance SMEs, ICT teams, and delivery partners to understand current processes, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure that business requirements are accurately captured, validated, and delivered throughout the transition.

This role suits someone who thrives in complex government environments and can confidently bridge the gap between finance operations and technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage finance stakeholders to gather, clarify, and document business requirements impacted by the ERP upgrade.

• Analyse current-state SAP ECC6 finance processes and contribute to the design of future-state S/4HANA processes.

• Support configuration reviews, process re-engineering, and finance-related data mapping.

• Assist with data migration planning, including cleansing, validation, and reconciliation.

• Prepare functional documentation – process maps, requirements, user stories, and business rules.

• Participate in solution design workshops and ensure finance needs are clearly reflected.

• Develop test scenarios, coordinate UAT, and support defect resolution.

• Contribute to training materials and change management activities for finance teams.

• Ensure documentation meets QLD Government governance standards.

• Identify, manage, and escalate project risks, issues, and dependencies.

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong understanding of financial processes within government environments (budgeting, AP/AR, assets, GL, etc.).

• Hands-on experience with SAP ECC6 FI/CO and familiarity with S/4HANA capabilities(Universal Journal, Fiori, etc.).

• Experience on large-scale SAP finance projects.

• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate business needs into system requirements.

• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across all levels.

• Experience with BPMN, business process modelling, and project tools (Visio, JIRA, Confluence).

Desirable

• Experience with SAP S/4HANA fit-to-standard frameworks and approaches.
