Senior Information Access Advisor

Level 5 | Opportunity for Level 6

Make your expertise matter

Are you an experienced information access professional looking for a role where your expertise can genuinely influence good governance, transparency and better decision-making?

Join a leading local government organisation as a Senior Information Access Advisor, where you’ll provide specialist advice, manage complex information access matters and work closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation.

What you’ll do

  • Manage end-to-end information access matters, including complex and escalated cases.
  • Apply and interpret the Right to Information Act 2009, Information Privacy Act 2009 and Evidence Act 1977.
  • Prepare decision notices, correspondence, reports, briefings and submissions.
  • Provide trusted, practical advice on information access legislation and case law.
  • Support complex external reviews and sensitive information access matters.
  • Build capability across the organisation through advice, guidance and training.
  • Stay across legislative changes, regulatory guidance and industry best practice.
  • Contribute to projects, process improvements and initiatives that strengthen governance and service delivery.

A step up to Level 6

For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to be appointed or progress to Level 6, with greater responsibility for leading projects, driving continuous improvement, mentoring team members and supporting strategic advice to senior leaders and elected representatives.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be an experienced information access professional with:

  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in information access legislation.
  • Experience assessing applications and making sound, well-reasoned decisions.
  • Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to explain complex legislation in clear, plain language.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders and sensitive matters.
  • High levels of integrity, confidentiality and professional judgement.
  • Experience in local or state government, or another highly regulated environment, will be highly regarded.

A Diploma-level qualification or equivalent extensive practical experience is desirable. For Level 6 consideration, tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Public Administration or a related discipline, together with relevant leadership/project experience, will be highly regarded.

Why this role?

This is more than a compliance role. It’s an opportunity to shape how information access is understood and delivered across a large organisation, work on genuinely interesting and complex matters, and make a meaningful contribution to public-sector governance.

If you’re ready to bring your expertise to a role with impact, we’d love to hear from you.
