Senior Front-End Developer (React / TypeScript)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Front-End Developer and Practice Lead to support a large federal government technology program. This role will lead the development of modern, responsive user interfaces used by both internal and external users, while guiding best practice across front-end development teams.

Working within a collaborative delivery environment, you will play a key role in designing scalable UI solutions, mentoring developers, and ensuring high-quality code and architecture across multiple projects.

This is a 12-month contract with strong extension potential supporting a major government digital platform.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

• Leading the design and implementation of responsive React-based user interfaces.
• Providing technical leadership and mentoring to front-end developers.
• Working across multiple data interfaces and APIs to support application integration.
• Reviewing code and guiding best practice for UI architecture, design patterns, and tooling.
• Collaborating with product teams, designers, backend developers, and business stakeholders.
• Supporting cross-team architecture decisions and front-end development standards.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for candidates with strong modern front-end engineering experience, including:

• 5+ years experience in senior software engineering roles.
• Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, Node.js and modern JavaScript development.
• Experience building component-driven architectures and modern UI frameworks.
• Experience working with APIs, backend services, and databases.
• Strong experience with automated testing frameworks.
• Experience with development and deployment tooling such as Jenkins, GitLab or Kubernetes.
• Experience mentoring developers and leading technical design discussions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience working in large enterprise or government delivery environments.
• Experience improving UI accessibility, performance and responsiveness.

Contract Details

• 12-month initial contract
• Long extension potential (up to 3 years total)
• Hybrid working environment
• Offices located in Canberra or NSW
• NV1 security clearance required (or ability to obtain)
