Senior Payroll Tester

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Testing professional to join a major HR and Payroll Transformation Program within a large and complex organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Tester who combines strong payroll domain expertise with leadership capabilities and a passion for delivering high-quality testing outcomes.

Working closely with the Test Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the successful implementation and integration of several enterprise platforms, including payroll, workforce management, HR, and integration solutions.

The Opportunity

As the Senior Payroll Tester, you will be responsible for coordinating payroll and integration testing activities while remaining actively involved in test planning, execution, defect management, and payroll validation. You will provide guidance to a small team of testers and work closely with business stakeholders, payroll specialists, project teams, and vendors to ensure a successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • A team of testers across payroll and integration testing streams.
  • Develop, review, and execute detailed payroll-related test cases and scenarios.
  • Validate payroll outcomes, including awards, allowances, overtime, leave entitlements, penalties, and other payroll calculations.
  • Investigate, analyse, and manage defects through to resolution.
  • Facilitate daily testing activities, stand-ups, progress reporting, and workload allocation.
  • Collaborate with Payroll, HR, Technology, and Business teams to ensure testing coverage and quality outcomes.
  • Support system and integration testing across multiple enterprise platforms.
  • Contribute to testing governance, planning, and delivery activities.
  • Provide detailed analysis and recommendations regarding payroll-related issues and expected outcomes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring extensive experience working within complex payroll testing environments and possess a strong understanding of payroll legislation, awards, and Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs).

You will have:

  • Significant experience in Payroll Testing or Payroll Systems Testing.
  • Strong capability in creating and executing payroll-focused test scripts and scenarios.
  • Demonstrated experience validating payroll calculations and interpreting payroll rules.
  • The ability to identify, investigate, and document payroll defects and recommend solutions.
  • Experience leading or mentoring testing teams while remaining hands-on.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Highly Regarded Experience

  • Workday testing or implementation projects.
  • Chris21 or iChris payroll systems.
  • UKG Workforce Management or rostering platforms.
  • Time and attendance systems.
  • API and integration testing.
  • Postman or similar testing tools.
  • Experience working within healthcare, aged care, government, or other highly regulated environments.
