A leading tertiary institution is seeking an experienced Senior Security Engineer to take ownership of key cybersecurity and infrastructure security initiatives. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with strong expertise in firewalls and Okta identity management, backed by a solid foundation in security-focused systems engineering. You will join a collaborative IT environment where initiative, accountability and proactive problem-solving are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure, maintain and optimise Palo Alto Next-Generation Firewalls, including application-level rules and threat policies.
• Lead firewall-related implementations and network hardening initiatives.
• Lead the deployment and ongoing management of Okta SSO and MFA solutions.
• Implement secure access controls, integrations and policies aligned to best practice.
• Apply secure configuration principles across Windows environments and Active Directory.
• Conduct Group Policy reviews and develop supporting recommendations/documentation.
• Embed security-by-design across infrastructure and systems work.
• Advise on secure configurations, network segmentation and authentication mechanisms.

To be successful, your CV should demonstrate the following:

• Proven experience in systems and security engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Okta and possess knowledge of other IAM technologies
• Experience working with firewalls configurations and network security strengthening (Experience with Palo Alto is beneficial but not essential)
• Strong understanding of Windows Server, AD and Group Policy.
• Familiarity with network protocols, routing and VPNs.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Self-sufficient, proactive and solutions-focused with strong security best practice awareness.
