  • Location: Onsite in ACT, with limited options for remote work subject to prior approval
  • Contract Duration: 12 months, with the possibility of two 12-month extensions
  • Work Hours: Up to 40 hours per week

Overview
As a key member of the team, you will provide expert support and administration of the Microsoft SQL Server engine fleet, including scripting, automation, backup, migration, and performance tuning. Your work ensures the integrity, availability, and security of vital data systems that underpin Australia’s defence capabilities. This role offers a challenging and rewarding environment where your technical expertise will contribute directly to national security efforts, working onsite in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and compliance, this position is ideal for a motivated professional eager to make a difference.

Required Skills

  • Intermediate Practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server, specifically including Always-On Availability Groups
  • Strong proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell for automation of database tasks
  • Knowledge of database configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience following Agile and SCRUM development methodologies
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to document procedures meticulously and transition knowledge effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under general direction
  • Security Clearance: Hold Positive Vetting - TSPV or TSPA
  • Experience with virtual server environments and visualisation management
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL or other relational databases
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices related to database management
  • Prior experience in defence or government agencies

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Solid experience in database administration or related roles, ideally in secure or government environments
  • Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise-grade SQL Server environments
