Job description

New contract opportunity for an experienced Technical Lead, to work with our well regarded client in the Utilities sector. This is a contract through to the end of December 2022 with the option to extend, and will be based in Newstead, Brisbane with WFH flexibility.

The Technical Lead reports directly to the Program Director. The role provides support for other Program Leads under a matrix structure. The following positions currently report directly to the role:

  • 2 x Solution Architects
  • 1 x Analyst Programmer
  • 1 x Integration Developer
  • 1 x Work Package Manager
  • 1 x Reporting Analyst

The following additional positions will report directly to the role in the next stage of the Program lifecycle:

  • 7 x Integration Developers
  • 4 x Data Analysts

The following positions will report indirectly to the role:

  • Operational SMEs within the Digital Division engaged under Work Packages
  • Professional Service providers engaged under contract (e.g. security consulting)

The primary purpose of the role is to:

  • Lead the CMX Technical Stream in accordance with the approved CMX Governance Framework to ensure that milestones are met, products are delivered in a consistent manner, benefits are realised, risks are mitigated, dependencies are managed, variations are approved, and progress is transparently tracked and reported against forecasts
  • Lead the planning and execution of Program technical activities in consultation with the clients Enterprise Architecture Team within Digital Division
  • Ensure alignment between the tasks undertaken by the CMX Program Team, other staff, and vendors, to avoid duplication of effort and gaps in scope

The role requires:

  • Centralised management of technical stream resources
  • Centralised tracking and reporting of technical stream product delivery, risks, issues, dependencies, and benefits
  • Refinement of existing non-functional requirements developed under a professional services engagement in 2020
  • Product and service designs (in consultation with stakeholders, vendors, and implementation partners) that define target state data models, systems' integration, configuration item changes, and service models
  • Working with technical SMEs across the client to identify and action opportunities to leverage existing investment in technology and supplier relationships

Assisting the PMO & Commercial Lead in:

  • Product and service evaluation and selection through procurement processes
  • Management of vendors during implementation

Assisting Stream Leads in:

  • Planning and executing updates to existing Configuration Items
  • Managing the competing imperatives of modernising technology with delivery of enhancements to current technology to ensure regulatory compliance outcomes continue to be met over Program life
  • Planning and execution of service migration and deployment

Skills required

  • End-to-end program and project delivery experience
  • Previous experience in planning, monitoring, and reporting on high value / risk programs and projects
  • Previous experience leading a Program Technical Stream under a matrix structure
  • Previous experience tracking a Program Technical Stream product delivery to ensure milestones are delivered by the client and vendors
  • Previous experience with risk, issue, dependency, and opportunity analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure deadlines are met and escalating where unable to achieve objectives
  • Previous experience with managing outgoing vendors during product and service transition
  • A high level of organisational skills and attention to detail, with excellent verbal and written ability.
