Backend Developer (Java/AWS) - Production Support
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Backend Developer with a strong focus on production support and operational excellence to join our dynamic team. This role combines technical expertise with a commitment to maintaining robust and efficient systems, ensuring seamless application performance and reliability.
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive production support and operational assistance for critical applications.
Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify root causes of issues and optimize system performance.
Articulate complex technical issues and concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Participate in an after-hours on-call support roster to address urgent production incidents.
Collaborate on minor frontend tasks and integrate backend APIs, primarily using Angular.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines and version control practices.
Required Skills & Experience:
General:
Desirable previous Utilities experience, ideally within an energy retailer.
Proven experience working in a production support/operations environment.
Strong data analysis skills and practical experience.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for explaining technical concepts.
Proficiency in using JIRA and Confluence for project management and documentation.
Technical:
Java Backend Expertise: Strong knowledge of Java backend development. Hands-on experience with Play Framework and SBT is highly desirable; general Java backend proficiency will be sufficient if Play/SBT experience is limited.
Database Skills: Proficiency in MySQL or similar relational databases, including strong SQL skills for writing efficient queries, stored procedures, and performing database optimization.
Frontend Fundamentals: Basic knowledge of Angular for minor frontend tasks and integration with backend APIs.
Cloud Experience: Practical experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud services, including but not limited to EC2, S3, RDS, and CloudWatch, for application deployment, management, and monitoring.
DevOps Tools: Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
