Senior Wintel Engineer

An exciting opportunity exists for experienced Wintel Engineers to join a high-impact team dedicated to enhancing the cyber security posture of the Australian Government. The role will focus on implementing Essential Eight mitigation strategies and remediating security vulnerabilities across complex ICT environments.

• 12 months contract with the ability to extend to 2x12 months
• Open to Australian citizens with NV1 Security Clearance
• Open to ACT, QLD,VIC
• Paxus pays weekly

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement security controls to uplift the cyber security maturity level of systems and infrastructure.
  
• Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both administrative and security-related tasks.
  
• Participate in and facilitate design and remediation workshops with stakeholders.
  
• Prototype and test secure system configurations to support broader security initiatives.
  

Technical Skills & Experience Required:

• Minimum of 7 years' experience in Wintel administration and system implementation within enterprise environments.
  
• Proven experience working with a security focus across enterprise software and systems such as:
  
  
  • Active Directory
    
  • Windows Server environments
    
  • Linux systems
    
  • Cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS)
    
• Hands-on experience implementing one or more of the Australian Cyber Security Centre's Essential Eight mitigation strategies at Maturity Level 2 or higher.
  
• Strong scripting or development skills for automation of system administration, vulnerability scanning, or cyber risk remediation tasks.
  

• Experience working with public cloud environments such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
  
• Expertise in detecting, evaluating, and remediating Active Directory compromises.
  
• Competency in Linux system administration and core networking concepts.
