We are currently seeking an experienced AI & Data Governance Consultant to support a high-impact program within the public sector. It is an initial 6-month contract with likelihood of extensions.
This role is an exciting opportunity to guide the implementation of robust frameworks that ensure AI systems and data assets are managed responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with evolving regulatory standards.
In this position, you'll work at the forefront of data and AI governance, helping shape policies and practices that drive trust, transparency, and accountability across the organisation. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, supporting the development of innovative, compliant, and community-focused AI solutions.
What You'll be Doing:
- Design and implement AI governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure ethical, transparent, and compliant AI usage.
- Advise on data governance strategies including data quality, metadata management, classification, and stewardship.
- Assess AI models for fairness, accountability, transparency, explainability (FATE), and potential bias.
- Conduct risk assessments and support AI model validation and auditing activities.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, data science, and IT stakeholders to align data and AI governance strategies.
- Monitor and interpret global AI and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, EU AI Act) to ensure compliance.
- Recommend and support the implementation of tools and technologies for data governance, documentation, and model monitoring.
- Provide readiness assessments and support the adoption of AI/data governance maturity models.
What You'll Bring:
- 6+ years' experience in data governance, AI governance, risk, or compliance roles.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA, ISO/IEC 42001, and the EU AI Act.
- Background in AI/ML lifecycles, model risk, and data privacy principles.
- Proven ability to communicate complex regulatory and technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Governance, Law, or a related field.
Desirable Skills:
- Certification in DMBOK or related data governance frameworks.
- Experience working within highly regulated industries such as finance, health care, or government.
- Exposure to responsible AI practices and algorithmic bias mitigation.
- Familiarity with data platforms such as Azure Purview, AWS Glue, or Google Data Catalog.
