Job description

The Cloud Engineer AWS, will require Cloud skills that demonstrate strong expertise in AWS. They will need to demonstrate an ability to adapt and change, to take ownership of a diverse range of innovative solutions, practices and platforms. These platforms may change as services evolve.

To be able to deliver end to end, the role will also require a solid understanding of supporting services and skills ranging from networking, DNS, authentication systems, monitoring, operating systems, scripting, monitoring, design and documentation.



Key Accountabilities

  • Curate or develop solutions on the AWS platform based on a prioritised backlog. Ensuring solutions align to cloud platform and customer requirements.
  • Ensure AWS solutions are consistently applied and meet existing governance and compliance requirements.
  • Provide expertise, mentoring and support on use of AWS services and best practices.
  • Mentoring others in operational support of AWS solutions.
  • Take a leading role in developing customer focused solutions in accordance with projects, minor works or operational requirements.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships across global team, to help build a modern IT organization through, cloud adoption.
  • Automate commonly needed AWS platform components and solutions. Use reusable deployment packages that align with security, compliance, and service management policies.
  • Collaborate with product owners, developers, and support staff to ensure continuous and reliable delivery of service. Ensuring effective and efficient resolution to incidents, service requests and problems as per the documented service level agreements.
  • Client has a Global presence, as such this role will require being part of a 24x7 On Call Roster, which will involve working with Technical Engineers Internal and External to the Cloud Engineering team to resolve issues after hours.


Key Selection Criteria

  • Track record of successfully managing and supporting an AWS Platform in large environments.
  • Experience taking ownership of a customer request/project from ideation to deliver technologically innovative solutions ensuring customer needs and operationalisation are achieved.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team, imparting knowledge and sharing experience with others.
  • Ability to take a leading role in the establishment and maintenance of constructive relationships with customers, peers, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
  • Expert level knowledge with AWS design, architecture and services (EC2, IAM, S3 etc.)
  • Experience in delivering solutions as Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation etc.) strong skills in JSON, Ruby, Python.
  • Sound knowledge of server infrastructure, operating systems, networking, virtualisation (VMWare), and cloud computing
  • Experience with Agile, and DevOps concepts Developing monitoring architecture and implementing monitoring agents, dashboards, escalations and alerts
