Junior/Associate Software Developer

  • Contract duration : 15 months + 2x 12 months extension options
  • Location: Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth
  • APS4,APS5 equivalent
  • Working arrangement: fully onsite
  • Australian citizen with minimum NV1 Security clearance is mandatory

We're looking for a motivated Junior/Associate Software Developer to join a large federal government department and help design, build, and support innovative software solutions that make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

As a valued member of our development team, you will:

  • Design, build, integrate, and document software solutions that meet evolving business needs.
  • Collaborate with team leaders and project managers, escalating issues and seeking guidance when needed.
  • Document technical processes in line with organisational standards and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
  • Assist in automating existing systems and integrating Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) software.
  • Monitor systems and infrastructure, providing support and troubleshooting assistance.
  • Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by enhancing procedures and producing detailed design documentation.

Technical Skills & Experience

We're looking for candidates with experience or knowledge in:

  • Programming languages and frameworks such as Python, Java, Java Messaging Service, JavaScript/TypeScript, J2EE, RESTful APIs, Django, Ruby, and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes and OpenShift.
  • Automation tools including Puppet, Ansible, and Docker.
  • A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative team environment.
