A Senior Linux Security Engineer is responsible for ensuring the security and integrity of Linux-based systems within an organization and their role involves a combination of system administration, security engineering, and incident response.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, build, and deploy Linux operating systems tailored to organizational needs.
- Mentor Linux Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to enhance their technical expertise.
- Collaborate with various teams to gather requirements and ensure Linux server configurations meet organizational goals.
- Integrate sophisticated ICT infrastructure software and applications with Linux OS.
- Troubleshoot, log, track, and resolve complex issues related to Linux Standard Operating Environments (SOEs) and integrated business applications.
- Implement robust security measures to ensure the resilience and protection of Linux servers.
- Create and maintain a library of automated builds to streamline configurations and boost operational efficiency.
- Work with system architects to design and develop Proof of Concepts (POCs) using diverse technologies.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and tools for feasibility and potential organizational benefits.
- Develop and peer-review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), build guides, and related documentation.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience as a Linux Technician within the Defence sector.
- Proficiency in managing Linux servers and virtual systems in hyper-converged and distributed environments.
- Expertise in key technologies and services such as Ansible, GitLab, YUM, and RHEL 7.x-9.x.
- Ability to interpret customer requirements, standards, and frameworks, applying them to future solution designs and systems.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with a proven track record in stakeholder engagement and project involvement.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with SEA2273 Minerva systems.
- Ability to quickly build, automate, and deliver POC systems for analysis, testing, accreditation, and development within a DevSecOps framework.
- Experience with governance frameworks related to infrastructure service and security delivery, including subsystems specified in the Australian Information Security Manual (ISM).
- Knowledge of cyber-security controls and practices aligned with zero-trust architecture principles.
- Experience with Australian Defence Force (ADF) deployed environments/platforms and their unique networking, support, and security constraints.
- NV2 Security Clearance is mandatory.
