A highly respected non-for-profit research organisation is seeking a Linux Engineer to join their team. You will be responsible for all aspects of IT infrastructure, from administration and deployment to security and support. On offer is a permanent opportunity with salary sacrifice benefits.

You will be responsible for:

  • Design, and deploy cutting-edge infrastructure solutions.
  • Manage and administer storage, compute, and network resources.
  • Implement and maintain system administration plans, including backup and recovery, security protocols, and more.
  • Install, upgrade, and patch virtual machines.
  • Source and purchase physical infrastructure.
  • Conduct technical evaluations on new technologies.
  • Provide technical consultancy and support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use helpdesk systems to manage and track tasks.
  • Maintain rigorous security standards across all systems.
  • Participate in stress testing, capacity planning, and usage trending.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Update inventories and documentation.


To be successful, much of the following must be highlighted in your CV

  • Expert in Linux system administration, with experience using distributions like Ubuntu, CentOS, SuSE/SLES, and RedHat.
  • Strong with tools like Puppet and Ansible.
  • Deep understanding of high-performance networking technologies, both within the data center and the wide-area network.
  • Skilled in routing and switching, network protocols, software and hardware firewalls.
  • Written scripts in Python, Perl, Bash, or other languages.
  • Proven track record of troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies like KVM, XEN, VMWARE, AWS, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with OpenStack.


A plus if you have:

  • Experience providing end-user support, especially to researchers.
  • Experience with hierarchical storage administration, encryption technologies, LDAP, RADIUS, Shibboleth, and popular IT management tools.
  • Knowledge of Google Apps administration.
  • Data protection software and disaster recovery experience.
  • Familiarity with ITIL, ISO, or other relevant best practices and standards.
