A highly respected tertiary institution is looking for a systems engineer to play a key part in supporting their on-premises infrastructure, contribute to uplift projects, and enhance networking and security across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support core on-prem infrastructure systems, including servers, storage, and virtualisation platforms.
- Lead and deliver upgrade and remediation tasks (e.g., OS updates, core infrastructure improvements).
- Support and manage networking at the infrastructure level (e.g., switching, VLANs, routing below the firewall layer).
- Assist with Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 and integration with Azure and SaaS-based tools.
- Participate in project-based work, including systems transitions, migrations, and automation initiatives.
- System automation where feasible, with openness to DevOps practices and tools (e.g. Ansible, PowerShell scripting).
- Provide level 2/3 support across infrastructure services and liaise with vendors as required.
- Work cross-functionally with other IT staff, demonstrating strong communication and stakeholder engagement.
To be successful, your CV must highlight the following:
- 5+ years of experience in a Systems Engineer or Systems Administrator role
- Windows Server and OS-level updates
- Active Directory / Entra ID
- Microsoft 365 ecosystem
- Strong experience with VMware
- Networking fundamentals, particularly switching and layer 2/3 concepts
- Experience supporting medium to large-sized environments (ideally 500+ users)
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and take initiative in infrastructure and operations environments
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure, particularly Azure.
- Familiarity with DevOps or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, scripting for automation).
- Previous experience in the education sector is a bonus but not essential
