Job description

Two Senior Infrastructure Engineer roles

  • Contract starting from 1 July 2025
  • 12 months with 2x 12 months extension options
  • Australian citizenship with NV1 security clearance is mandatory
  • Hybrid work arrangement (3 days Onsite)
  • Location: Canberra

Infrastructure Engineers implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing technical expertise to projects and business areas, and leads the technical deliverables;
  • Maintaining, monitoring and upgrading the Virtual Service Environment (VSE) environments and servers in accordance to the vendor's recommendations, and ensuring fit for purpose;
  • Planning, designing, developing, testing and maintaining new or existing virtual service developments in accordance with guidelines and in collaboration with stakeholders;
  • Configuring and deploying virtual services and servers in accordance with the applications operational model governed by application owners;
  • Defining and leading the analysis, planning, execution, delivery and performance improvement activities using appropriate tools;
  • Promoting the adoption of virtual services through walkthroughs/demos to ICT stakeholders and project teams;
  • Providing support and guidance to project teams for maintaining their own virtual service environments.
  • Providing technical expertise to projects and business areas, and leading the technical deliverables;
  • Undertaking a range of activities in support of the management and operation of the Department's secure storage, backup and data protection capabilities;
  • Implementing major/minor project work to support Departmental initiatives;
  • Undertaking enhancement and remediation activities across storage, backup and data protection systems;

  • For role 3: * Windows Server Operating systems * Active Directory * MS SQL Server database * IBM DB2 Database Admin(Linux/Unix) * Unix or Windows Powershell & SQL programming * MQ & related products * z/OS MQ Configuration & Integration Framework * Microsoft products incl. SCCM, Hyper-V/VMM, SCOM, File & Print * VMware ESX & vSphere, vSAN, NSX, HCI Virtualisation * SMTP Email *SSL Gateways *Load Balancing *Proxy *Firewalls including Firewall management *IPS

Criteria

  • Programming/software development level 3 Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors moderately complex programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result. Monitors and reports on progress. Identifies issues related to software development activities. Proposes practical solutions to resolve issues. Collaborates in reviews of work with others as appropriate.
  • Availability management level 5 Provides advice and guidance on the planning, design and improvement of service and component availability. Investigates all breaches of availability targets and service non-availability and initiates remedial activities. Develops plans for disaster recovery together with supporting processes. Manages the testing of disaster recovery plans.
